Project Manager II
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

Manages the operation of a project or study. Develops policies, procedures, research instruments, and methods for project/study implementation. Typically reports to the Program Administrator or Principal Investigator. Has responsibility for independently managing all aspects of study/project operation. Special skills and knowledge are applied in managing project/study operations, developing methods and materials, and in carrying-out complex research responsibilities. Independent judgment is used in interpreting and applying project/study protocol and in supervising staff.
The scope of responsibility for Project Manager II is greater than that of Project Manager I due to any one or combination of the following: management of a large, complex study; supervisory responsibility for a large staff; responsibility for a large overall operating budget; oversight of a large number of locations.
Responsibilities
Set project goals and timetables, ensuring that all research and administrative activities are completed.
Coordinate the activities of research staff.
Supervise staff including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and handling disciplinary action, terminations, and layoffs.
Develop, interpret and administer project/study policies according to protocol, IRB, grant/contract and Center specifications.
Develop research materials which may include questionnaires, data collection instruments, educational materials, and administrative forms. Review, edit and revise project/study materials.
Carry-out complex research responsibilities in support of project/study, requiring advanced related education and/or experience.
Assist the Principal Investigator in the design of project/study methods such as study subject selection and retention, data collection, and database management.
Serve as project/study liaison, representing the project/study to other Center departments, funding sources, affiliated individuals or institutions, and outside organizations. Give presentations as necessary.
Plan and attend committee meetings, monitor activities to ensure objectives have been met within designated time frame, and coordinate follow-up activities.
Coordinate grant/contract application and renewal process, writing portions of grants/contracts as required.
Assist in the analysis of study data.
Coordinate the submission of study results, articles, and manuscripts for publication, writing portions of articles/manuscripts as required.
Develop and monitor project/study budget, ensuring that all financial allocations and expenditures are in accordance with grant/contract guidelines.
Coordinate space and equipment planning and utilization, evaluating current project/study needs, overseeing the acquisition of space and equipment, anticipating and planning for future needs.
Performs responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS in related field or equivalent experience required.
Minimum of five years post-master's or seven years post-bachelors related project/study management experience in a research setting.
Grant and contract experience.
Strong supervisory skills and budgeting experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MA/MS desired.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with RedCap database development including programming logic, automation, data collection, reporting and data cleaning.
Experience with intervention text automation between text platforms and REDCap.
Experience in academic research, preferably across the UW/Fred Hutch/Seattle Children's consortium.
Familiarity with grant, protocol, and manuscript approvals within the Children's Oncology Group (COG).
Experience with promotion and measurement of physical activity and sedentary behaviors with a variety of devices.
Experience coordinating multi-site clinical or behavioral research studies.
Experience managing IRB/regulatory activities including reliance and single-IRB arrangements across institutions.
Experience hiring, training, mentoring or supervising clinical research staff including addressing improvement on deliverables.
The annual base salary range for this position is from $88,712 to $133,058, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
