Description: The position is in a Labor and Delivery department with six beds in a secure unit. There is one dedicated operating room suite for C-sections. Approximately 160 births occur per year, averaging 12-17 per month. The unit follows established guidelines for staffing ratios, with two Registered Nurses on each shift. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE. Common patient types include laboring patients, postpartum patients, well babies, and high-risk cases. The Registered Nurse will provide care for both the mother and newborn for the initial hours after birth. Experience should include autonomous management of laboring patients and stabilization of newborns. Nurses are required to titrate medications such as magnesium and Pitocin. A charge nurse is typically present on each shift to provide additional support. Anesthesia staff is available on-call after hours with a response time of 30 minutes. Self-scheduling is available among core staff members, with equitable distribution of weekend and holiday shifts. The facility may require floating to other departments as necessary, with a focus on patient safety. Professional attire includes surgical scrubs, with specific requirements during deliveries. Candidates should be prepared to work collaboratively with obstetric physicians, who are available on-call for laboring patients.
