This role is responsible for handling claims end-to-end—from initial intake and coverage assessment through investigation, strategy development, negotiation, and final resolution.The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in environmental law, coverage interpretation, and litigation management, with the ability to develop and execute thoughtful resolution strategies while effectively communicating with internal leadership and external stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesClaims Management & InvestigationManage a portfolio of complex environmental and toxic tort claims, including long-tail exposuresOversee claims from intake through resolution, ensuring timely and thorough handlingConduct detailed investigations, including liability, damages, and exposure analysisCoordinate with external counsel, consultants, and experts on technical environmental mattersCoverage AnalysisAnalyze and interpret policy language to determine coverage applicabilityDraft clear, well-supported coverage position letters (including reservations of rights and disclaimers)Evaluate coverage issues related to environmental exposures, bodily injury, and property damage claimsLitigation & Resolution StrategyDevelop and implement strategic claim resolution plans, including litigation and settlement approachesManage litigation in partnership with outside counsel, including strategy direction and budget oversightNegotiate settlements and drive claims toward efficient, cost-effective resolutionProvide negotiation directives and authority recommendations aligned with company guidelinesLeadership Communication & ReportingPrepare and deliver presentations to senior management on significant claims, exposures, and trendsProvide clear recommendations on reserves, litigation strategy, and settlement positionsMaintain accurate and timely claim documentation and reportingCollaboration & CompliancePartner with underwriting, legal, and risk teams to analyze emerging risks and coverage issuesEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal claims handling standardsContribute to continuous improvement of claims processes and best practicesQualificationsRequired ExperienceMinimum 7+ years of experience handling environmental, toxic tort, or complex liability claimsDemonstrated experience managing long-tail claims from intake through final resolutionStrong background in coverage analysis and policy interpretationEducation & CredentialsJuris Doctor (JD) strongly preferredBachelor's degree requiredTechnical ExpertiseIn-depth knowledge of environmental law, toxic tort litigation, and liability frameworksProven ability to draft coverage-level communications and legal correspondenceExperience managing outside counsel and litigation strategyStrong negotiation skills with a track record of achieving favorable claim outcomesSALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $150,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only.
