The role
We are seeking a detail-oriented, technically proficient Building Automation Sales Estimator to support our sales team in delivering accurate, competitive, and timely project estimates and proposals. This role requires strong analytical skills, familiarity with HVAC and building automation systems (BAS), and the ability to interpret construction documents, specifications, and drawings. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and bridges technical expertise with sales support.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and analyse RFPs, plans, specifications, and scope documents for new and retrofit BAS projects.
Develop accurate cost estimates for building automation systems, including controls, hardware, software, labour, and subcontracted services.
Collaborate with sales, engineering, and operations teams to develop proposal strategies and ensure cost alignment with project requirements.
Conduct site visits as necessary to gather information and validate project scope and conditions.
Prepare professional proposal documents including detailed scopes of work, budgets, and equipment schedules.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
Maintain a database of labour and material pricing, and update estimating tools as needed.
Support pre-sales efforts by responding to client questions, clarifying design intent, and assisting with presentations in tender interviews if needed.
Track and manage multiple estimates and bids simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
Required:
2+ years of experience in estimating or engineering in building automation, HVAC, or electrical systems.
Strong understanding of BAS (e.g., HVAC controls, DDC systems, sensors, and integration with mechanical systems).
Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and estimating software.
Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Experience with BAS manufacturers/systems such as Automated Logic, Carrier iVu, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Trane, or Schneider Electric.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or Visio.
Knowledge of energy management principles and sustainability standards (e.g., NABERS, GREENSTAR).
Understanding of Commissioning Standards (e.g CIBSE guidelines)
