Job Description McKinney-Vento Advisors assist students experiencing homelessness by providing resource coordination, academic support, postsecondary planning, workforce readiness guidance, and transition services that promote high school completion and successful entry into college, career training, military service, or employment. Responsibilities Connect students to college and career readiness opportunities, postsecondary transition supports, workforce development programs, scholarships, mentoring, and community resources that promote successful educational and employment outcomes. Guide unaccompanied and homeless high school students through college, trade school, workforce training apprenticeship, and military application processes. Inform unaccompanied and homeless high school students of educational rights and financial aid opportunities available under McKinney-Vento Act and FAFSA provisions. of their rights according to FAFSA. Assist unaccompanied and homeless students in obtaining internships, apprenticeships, job-shadowing experiences, and workforce development opportunities. Assist unaccompanied and homeless high school students in completing their FAFSA applications,scholarship applications, tuition waiver requests, and other financial aid documentation. . Provide information and resources to unaccompanied and homeless high school students regarding college applications, FAFSA applications, academic requirements, and any other college/career related questions. Organize, plan, and lead family engagement focused on college, career, financial aid, workforce development, and scholarship opportunities. Assist, provide guidance, and practice essay writing for college applications,resume development, interviewing skills, and professional communication. Connect students to college and career readiness programs. Collaborate with school counselors, community school facilitators and other essential support staff to coordinate comprehensive support. Coordinate access to transportation, school supplies, hygiene products, clothing, housing resources, and community-based services. Utilize trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strength-based practices. Maintain all required records and documentation. Provides required documents to the Homeless Education Office. Attend all required professional development and meetings. Offer continuum of care homeless referrals as appropriate. Other duties as assigned Qualifications PPossession of a bachelors degree (retirees are welcomed to apply). Part time position 15-20 hours per week. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Technology competency. Knowledge of spelling, grammar, and arithmetic. Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, Microsoft Office 365, and related applications. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to properly maintain confidential information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to follow rules and regulations Physical And Environmental Conditions The work in this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move within the school and classroom setting. Conditions Of Employment Employment in this position is contingent upon successfully passing a background, DSS, and criminal history check. Employees must have submitted an application for employment to the Office of Temporary Services. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109. Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
