Position Overview Position Summary: Under immediate supervision and direction, custodians perform custodial work for the general maintenance of university buildings and related work as required. Requirements Duties and Responsibilities: Perform cleaning in all areas of a building and floor areas, such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and buffing Clean bathrooms and refill supplies Collect trash from receptacles and empty into designated areas Lock and unlock doors as required Clean porches, entrances, and windows of buildings Clean, store, and perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment Serve as on-call personnel to assist in emergency clean-up Regular and predictable attendance required Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Job Requirements: Less than high school. No previous work experience is necessary. Must possess a valid driver's license. HS diploma or GED equivalent and prior work experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to follow oral and written directions Ability to observe and use safe working conditions Ability to use and care for janitorial supplies, chemicals, and equipment Ability to use a 6ft ladder Ability to lift and carry equipment and furniture regularly Ability to operate a buffer, small tools, and other equipment related to custodial duties Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly inside, with some outside work Work involves exposure to hazardous conditions with fumes, odors, and toxic situations Employee may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens Work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
