About the Position

Join the Saint Paul Public Library as a Custodian II and play a key role in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming spaces for the community. In this position, you’ll perform custodial work across library facilities, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, supporting daily operations, and contributing to a positive experience for patrons and staff. This is an opportunity to take pride in essential work that directly supports public service in one of the city’s most valued community resources.

Here's what you an expect to do:

  • Clean restrooms

  • Vacuum and edge offices and hallways

  • Remove trash from offices, breakrooms, and grounds

  • Sweep and mop breakrooms and stairwells

  • Perform seasonal grounds work including lawn maintenance and snow removal

  • Assist with stripping and waxing floors

  • Assist Custodial Engineers with light maintenance work

Information Specific to this Position:

The current vacancy shift is Monday - Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. and is based out of Rondo Community Library and is expected to drive to other sites.

Position Requirements

Good physical condition.

For positions in Fire Department, Libraries, Police Department, Public Works, and the Saint Paul Regional Water Services: Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists are typically created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
