A Day in the Life as a Wireless & Fiber Technician

A Wireless & Fiber Technician at IdeaTek is a hardworking individual dedicated to connecting our communities through reliable internet and VoIP services. Each day, you will support business operations by performing independent installations, fiber optic cable splicing, and prompt repairs in outdoor environments.

This role requires a passion for problem-solving, as you will diagnose and resolve customer connectivity issues on-site and align internet dishes and wireless receivers. You will spend your day in the field around Fowler, KS, providing an exceptional, friendly, and patient experience to our customers. Whether you are operating a bucket truck for aerial work, managing underground fiber drops, or building plant construction, your focus will be on safety and delivering outstanding customer service.

Location

The individual in this role will support services and work in the field in and around Garden City, KS.

What You'll Do
Key responsibilities include:

• Perform fiber optic cable splicing, repairs, and plant construction/decommissioning in outdoor environments. Deliver and maintain wireless services, including aligning internet dishes and wireless receivers.
• Handle service repairs independently and service drops from terminals to ensure reliable fiber delivery to businesses.
• Service and repair VoIP systems for both residential and business customers to ensure high-quality communication.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve customer connection and connectivity issues accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain a working knowledge of splicing schematics and spreadsheets, recording accurate splicing and field notes to support service timelines.
• Provide an exceptional experience to customers by being friendly, patient, and efficient.
• Ensure all work meets quality standards, safety protocols, and customer satisfaction goals while working at various heights (roofs, poles, ladders, or bucket trucks).

What We're Looking For
To be considered for this role, you'll need the following required qualifications:

• 2+ years of relevant work experience in a field-based technical role (e.g., installer, electrician, HVAC, or other low voltage work)
• Must possess and maintain a Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to work outdoors in various conditions, differentiate colors, and lift up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to work both underground and in aerial environments (i.e., climbing ladders and/or operating a bucket truck).
• Ability to work an on-call rotation—including nights, weekends, and holidays.
