Registered Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Location & Shift City/State: Norfolk, VAWork Shift: Third (Nights) Overview Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a full‑time Registered Nurse for our Intensive Care Unit (36 hours per week). The position offers a $20,000 sign‑on bonus. The RN will provide critical care on the third shift. Responsibilities Perform competent nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation). Adhere to nursing standards of practice and professional performance, including ethics, cultural congruence, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, and resource utilization. Deliver critical care to patients in a 20‑bed ICU with a usual 1:2 nurse‑patient ratio and ranging from 1:1 to 1:3. Participate in daily physician‑led, nurse‑driven interdisciplinary rounds and other team meetings. Engage in continual education, new skill acquisition, and skill validation supported by the ICU Clinical Nurse Specialist. Support patients through the 11‑week Transition to Practice program for those moving into or returning to critical care. Collaborate with unit respiratory, physical, speech, occupational therapists, nutrition, palliative, chaplaincy, and ethical services as needed. Utilize onsite and eICU pulmonary critical care intensivists and physician extenders available 24/7. Qualifications Education: Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required); BSN or MSN preferred. Licensure: Current Bachelor of Science in Nursing license required; BLS required within 90 days of hire. Certifications: Current Registered Nursing license required. Experience: Minimum 1 year in emergency, intermediate care, or intensive care of med/surg nursing.
