The responsibilities of this position include contributing to environmental management system (EMS) performance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in the protection of the environment and reduction of pollution from the activities within the organization.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesFollows safety guidelines and proceduresParticipates in team meetings and trainingCleans work area according to 5's standardsUnloads new waste containers to be used in plantUnloads waste containers in storage area according to waste typeTransfers waste rags and paper from drums to Gaylord boxesCrushes cans and drums in drum crusherPunctures aerosol cans.Picks-up, boxes, and stores used light bulbsRuns daily route to pick up full drums waste containers and/or empty raw material drums for storage and disposalDestruction of strutsWeighs waste containers before putting into storageAssists in loading waste containers for shipmentAssists in other areas as time permitsOther duties may be assignedTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.High school diploma or GED; and one to three months related experience and/or training.Training as defined in 40402AAA, Training Requirements Matrix. GMI, Inc. unique training may be obtained during first three months of employment. Additional training will be provided as a part of Continuous Improvement.Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to stand, walk and sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet, humid, extreme cold, and extreme heat conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.The employee will be required to wear protective clothing, gloves, hard hat, and respirator, as specified in the various processes and/or instructions.
