GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The E-Coat Unload & Inspection Team Leader is a working leader responsible for coordinating the safe, timely, and accurate unloading and inspection of E-Coated product in accordance with Standard Work Instructions (SWIs), customer quality requirements, established takt time, and production quota.

The Unload & Inspection Team Leader owns the flow out of the E-Coat process. This position ensures associates understand the SWI, know what the customer expects, properly inspect E-Coated parts, maintain required process flow, and achieve established production rates. Quality inspection and production quota must be achieved together - neither is sacrificed for the other.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Reports to the E-Coat Manufacturing Supervisor and/or designated Operations leadership.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Provides day-to-day work direction, training, coaching, and process leadership to associates assigned to the area. This is a working Team Leader position.

Requirements:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Review the production schedule and understand the parts being unloaded, customer requirements, inspection criteria, required quantities, and downstream destination.

· Ensure each associate reads and understands the applicable SWI for the product being unloaded and inspected.

· Verify associates understand what the customer considers acceptable and unacceptable product and know when a condition must be escalated.

· Reinforce inspection through the customer's eyes: the next person handling or assembling the part is depending on our inspection.

· Maintain established unload takt and production quota while ensuring required inspection is performed correctly.

· Monitor individual and team performance throughout the shift so rate or quality gaps are addressed in real time rather than discovered at the end of the shift.

· Coach associates who are not meeting rate and determine whether the gap involves training, method, material, equipment, staffing, or individual performance.

· Verify required part/bar identification, documentation, and traceability before product moves forward.

· Ensure associates follow proper unloading, inspection, handling, packaging, and disposition requirements.

· Immediately respond to suspected E-Coat defects or other quality abnormalities and protect suspect product from moving downstream.

· Contain and escalate questionable product according to established Quality procedures and work with Quality and the E-Coat Supervisor when defects or recurring concerns are identified.

· Train associates to recognize E-Coat abnormalities and understand when escalation is required.

· Assign associates appropriately to maintain continuous unloading and prevent process-flow interruptions.

· Verify associates are actively inspecting rather than simply moving parts and are working to the established standard and time.

· Maintain 5S and organized work areas that support inspection, material flow, and safe handling.

· Communicate production, quality, staffing, process abnormalities, and unfinished actions to the E-Coat Supervisor and incoming Team Leader.

THE UNLOAD & INSPECTION TEAM LEADER OWNS BOTH QUALITY AND FLOW: WE DO NOT SACRIFICE INSPECTION TO MAKE RATE, AND WE DO NOT ACCEPT POOR PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE IN THE NAME OF QUALITY. THE EXPECTATION IS TO ACHIEVE BOTH.

· Train new associates and provide additional training or coaching to experienced associates when needed.

· Verify associates understand the work standard; do not assume that being shown once means the standard is understood.

· Keep associates engaged, productive, and focused on customer requirements while maintaining a respectful work environment.

SQDPE SUPPORT

· Safety - Follow and reinforce safe work practices, required PPE, and immediate reporting/escalation of unsafe conditions.

· Quality - Follow SWIs and quality requirements; identify abnormalities and protect the customer from nonconforming product.

· Delivery - Maintain the required process flow, rate, sequence, and production expectations for the assigned area.

· People - Train, coach, communicate, assign work, and support accountability within the team.

· Equipment - Recognize equipment or rack abnormalities, communicate problems promptly, and work with the Supervisor and Maintenance to restore normal operation.

PDCA - HOW TEAM LEADERS WORK

· PLAN - Understand the schedule, SWI, staffing, material, equipment, and customer requirements before the work reaches the team.

· DO - Execute the plan, direct the work, maintain flow, and respond to abnormalities.

· CHECK - Stay on the floor and verify the work is being performed correctly, safely, to time, and to standard.

· ACT - Correct issues, communicate/escalate what cannot be corrected at Team Leader level, and follow through until the process is back to standard.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

· High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

· Previous manufacturing experience required; E-Coat, automotive, finishing, inspection, or related production experience preferred.

· Previous working-leader, trainer, or Team Leader experience preferred.

SKILLS / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

· Strong people, communication, training, and floor-leadership skills.

· Ability to read, understand, teach, and verify Standard Work Instructions (SWIs).

· Ability to understand production schedules, rates, takt, quality requirements, material flow, and basic traceability.

· Basic computer literacy and ability to use company production and reporting systems.

· Ability to work cross-functionally with the E-Coat Supervisor, Quality, Maintenance, Material Handling, and other production areas.

· Flexible work schedule and overtime may be required based on company and customer needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing environment and requires frequent floor presence, prolonged standing and walking, and work around production machinery, racks, material handling equipment, forklift traffic, noise, and areas that may be hot or humid. Appropriate PPE is required. Specific lifting requirements should be confirmed by BTD Human Resources for the assigned E-Coat area.
