Description: The Registered Nurse implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. The RN creates a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. The RN provides patient and family-centered education and care coordination. The RN develops a problem list and prioritizes patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team. The RN implements patient care therapies and procedures with empowerment and clinical autonomy within the scope of practice. The RN communicates effectively with patients and families regarding procedures, treatments, and processes. The RN recognizes, responds to, and communicates changes in patient conditions appropriately. Ongoing comprehensive patient assessments and responses to procedures and therapies are documented. The RN revises and coordinates the plan of care based on patient and family responses and outcomes. Mentoring staff members and nursing students is encouraged. The RN acts as a role model and resource to others in the clinical role. Participation in unit-based activities to support organizational values and priorities is expected. The RN promotes a positive group dynamic and healing environment through actions and words. Quality improvement activities and core measures are actively participated in. The RN demonstrates critical thinking and creativity in handling patient issues. Educational needs of patients are identified and addressed according to their level of comprehension. The RN facilitates the patient discharge process by executing discharge orders in a timely manner. Input into patient/nurse assignments is provided based on available staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity.
