Job Description: Buyer / Supply Chain Specialist Build and Shape our Growing U.S. Operations The Opportunity We are looking for a hands‑on and entrepreneurial Buyer / Supply Chain Specialist to help build up our growing international site. This is more than a classic purchasing role:You will actively shape our supply chain in the U.S., working closely with our headquarters in Germany while establishing local supplier structures, improving processes, and driving operational excellence. Your Responsibilities Procurement and Supplier Management Source and purchase materials, components, and services in alignment with cost, quality, and delivery targets Act as a key interface between headquarters (Germany) and local operations Develop and qualify new local suppliers and build sustainable supplier relationships Compare costs (international vs. local sourcing) and identify optimization potential Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms Monitor supplier performance and resolve delivery, quality, or pricing issues Supply Chain and Process Development Support the setup and continuous improvement of supply chain processes at the new location Drive transparency in cost structures and identify savings opportunities Analyze market trends, commodities, and supply risks Support implementation of best practices in procurement and logistics Logistics, Inventory and Warehouse Responsibility Take ownership of inventory levels, stock coverage, and material availability Monitor and improve inventory turnover and stock structure Support and further develop the warehouse organization and processes Ensure smooth coordination of inbound logistics, including international shipments Systems and Optimization Contribute to the introduction and improvement of Kanban and replenishment systems Analyze consumption data and optimize material flow Support ERP‑based planning and transparency (e.g. SAP) Identify and implement continuous improvement measures International Trade and Compliance Support and improve processes related to customs, import/export, and duties Ensure compliance with company policies and international trade requirements What You Bring Experience in procurement, supply chain, or logistics, ideally in a manufacturing environment Strong technical understanding (e.g. mechanical components, drawings, or production processes) Analytical mindset with a good understanding of cost structures and supply chain dynamics Hands‑on mentality and motivation to build and improve processes Strong communication and negotiation skills Ability to work independently in a dynamic, growing environment ERP experience (e.g. SAP) and good Excel skills are a plus Fluent in English; German is a plus What We Offer A unique opportunity to actively build a new international site High level of responsibility and ownership from day one Direct collaboration with global teams (Germany and U.S.) A dynamic, growing environment with short decision paths The chance to shape processes, structures, and supplier networks Skills and Attributes Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with staff, stakeholders, and suppliers Good communication, negotiation, interpersonal and influencing skills Analytical, numerically astute with strong demonstrated problem‑solving abilities Able to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks and achieve set targets Commercial and financial awareness with a full understanding of how failure impacts the production, manufacture, and customer order fulfilment Able to work well under pressure and handle emergency and stressful situations Keen attention to detail and accuracy Familiarity with an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system such as SAP would be beneficial Qualifications and Experience Levels Relevant business/commercial or manufacturing/engineering degree or practical experience in an operation and or manufacturing environment Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) level 4 or similar qualification or studying towards CIPS qualification would be beneficial Previous experience of working in a purchasing team preferably within the machine tool, machine tool accessories, or manufacturing environment Good knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, commercial understanding, and cost breakdown Experience of working closely with suppliers Able to add value, reduce costs and input to business improvements An understanding of manufacturing processes and components would be advantageous Computer literate, with advanced Excel skills/abilities Basic accounting skills is a plus Blueprint reading and some basic technical understanding #J-18808-Ljbffr KNOLL America Inc.
