Job Title: RN Surgical Specialty Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical/Transplant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience; Stepdown/PCU experience preferred; Transplant experience preferred. License: Current RN License issued by the appropriate State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN License. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association. Must-Have: Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services; Effective verbal and written communication skills; Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors; Some computer skills. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes physiological manifestations, and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed; initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients regarding their care plan while in the hospital and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a med/surg unit. Candidates must have acute care surgical floor experience. ENT and/or transplant experience preferred. The unit cares for post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients. Also provides care for pre-transplant patients during their inpatient stay. Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery. This is not a PACU position. Any nurse on this floor will either work med/surg or stepdown dependent on nurse availability. Preceptor and charge experience is preferred.
