Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care to patients of all ages under the direction of a physician. This position evaluates patients, administers treatments, monitors respiratory conditions, and maintains respiratory equipment.

Essential Duties

• Assess patients’ breathing and respiratory needs.
• Administer oxygen, breathing treatments, and respiratory medications.
• Manage ventilators and other life-support equipment.
• Perform diagnostic tests, including pulmonary function and blood gas testing.
• Monitor patients and document treatment results.
• Respond to emergencies and assist with airway management.
• Educate patients and families about respiratory conditions and equipment.
• Clean, inspect, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment.
• Follow hospital policies, safety standards, and infection-control procedures.
• Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
• Current state Respiratory Therapist license.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential.
• Current BLS certification; ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required.
• Strong communication, critical-thinking, and patient-care skills.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, nights, and emergency shifts as scheduled.
