Full-time employment include benefits eligibility. Reports to: Principal and/or assigned Teacher Job Objective: Perform a variety of classroom support and student personal care services as directed under the supervision of an assigned teacher. Perform a variety of classroom activities that supports the instructional classroom programming which enables students with disabilities to participate in the educational program and set fully. Appointment Type: Classified Essential Functions: The following are typical work responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions. Provide support to the academic program and instructional activities under the guidance of the assigned teacher Work with small groups and/or individual students Acquire basic proficiency in skills that support student needs (e.g., sign language, fingerspelling, etc.) Help students with remedial and/or enrichment activities. Reinforce instructional objectives introduced by the teacher Perform clerical work related to classroom activities. Prepare and distribute classroom materials. Maintain records as directed Help keep program areas orderly; sanitize equipment as directed Utilize safe work practices for self and others Uphold board policies and follow administrative guidelines and procedures Assist in the supervision of students throughout the day including lunch, arrival/departure, rest periods, electives, field trips, etc. Help facilitate community participation in activities that enhance student learning Respond to student requests for assistance Prepare for the support of the student by becoming familiar with materials for the day in advance Prepare classroom equipment for use (technology) Promote student independence, providing fading support when directed Implement prescribed behavior plans and provide specific accommodations Position students to take full advantage of each learning environment Follow prescribed medical plans and/or assist students with personal hygiene care as trained Help feed students and comply with personal hygiene rules and standard sanitation procedures Participate in required training, including Vehicle Safety, First Aid, CPR, Crisis Intervention, Blood Borne Pathogens Must have physical ability to use physical holds (after appropriate/certified training) for crisis intervention Render basic first aid and assist with self-administration of medications when a school nurse is not available Participate in staff development activities, parent conferences, team meetings, and staff meetings as scheduled Maintain complete and accurate records and submit required paperwork on time Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information Take precautions to ensure safety and work with supervisors to manage or eliminate risk factors Utilize restraint and control techniques only as directed and trained Uphold the student conduct code Maintain high expectations for behavior and performance Provide appropriate student supervision as directed Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities as required by law Work with the classroom teacher to address persistent behavior problems Ride the bus to monitor student behavior and/or physical well-being; implement behavior plans and seizure action plans, as necessary Ability to work respectfully with a culturally diverse population of students Perform other specific job-related duties as directed Minimum Qualifications: Minimum requirements are used to establish clear and appropriate eligibility standards for a specific position. High school diploma, college education, or degree. An acceptable score on a pre-employment skill test may be required Licensure through the State Board of Education (Aide Permit) Maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment Participate in all required training, including but not limited to: Vehicle Safety, First Aid, CPR, Crisis Intervention, Blood Borne Pathogens Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies Embody high ethical standards and integrity; accept responsibility for decisions and conduct Adhere to ESC Governing Board policies and licensure code of professional conduct for Ohio Educators Secure and maintain appropriate licensures required Promote proper use, care, and security of ESC property Report misconduct, vandalism, equipment malfunctions, and other concerns Advance the professional image of the service center and affiliated school districts Establish professional relationships with coworkers and function as part of a cohesive team Commitment to stay current with workplace innovations Exhibit consistent, impartial, and resourceful critical-thinking skills Proficient in office protocols, data entry, spelling, proofreading, and correct grammar Demonstrate dependability and flexibility; respond productively to interruptions Attention to detail and customer service Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality Cross-train with other staff and participate in meetings and professional development Maintain confidentiality of information relating to students Perform other specific job-related duties as required Ability Requirements: The following personal characteristics and skills are important for the successful performance of assigned duties. Risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and/or communicable diseases Risk of exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, and other hazards Exposure to wet or slippery surfaces Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes Physical activities including bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs Operate and/or ride in a vehicle Work at various heights, in confined spaces, and in varying lighting conditions Work near moving mechanical parts Travel to meetings and assignments Performance Evaluation: Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio.
