Job Title: RN Emergency Department Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, PALS, De-escalation training (MOAB or CPI) Must-Have: General ED skillset, chest tubes, drips, IV starts, phlebotomy, EKGs, cardiac rhythm interpretation. Description: The Emergency Department consists of a 12-bed unit with the possibility of hallway beds. Night shift staffing includes 5 RNs and 1 paramedic until 2300. From 2300 until 0100, staffing drops to 4 RNs and 1 paramedic. Between 0100 and 0700, the staff consists of 3 RNs and 1 paramedic. The facility is a Level IV Trauma Center and a Primary Stroke Center with a total of 69 beds. Patient types range from neonates to geriatrics with various illnesses, primarily adults. The patient ratio is typically 1:5, occasionally up to 6 based on acuity. CNA support is available with a ratio of 1:12. Charge nurses do not have a patient load. Phlebotomy will be performed by ED RNs at the bedside. A resource nurse and lead RN function as resources for the staff. Respiratory therapy and hospitalists are in-house 24/7. Patient monitoring is conducted bedside and at the nursing station; no tele tech is available. Charting is done using Epic, with equipment including GE monitors, Alaris, and Pyxis. Floating to other units is not required. Weekend rotations are expected every other weekend. Time off can typically be approved without exceeding staffing needs. Call is not required, and holiday expectations vary based on unit needs. Scrub color is not specified. Free onsite parking is provided.
