Position: Sign Language Interpreter (ASL)

Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) to provide interpreting services for a student within a school district in Poquoson, Virginia . The interpreter will facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, staff, and peers throughout the school day.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and effective ASL interpretation for a student in an educational setting

• Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, activities, assemblies, and school events

• Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, staff, and peers

• Maintain confidentiality and professional standards

• Collaborate with teachers and school staff to support the student's educational needs

• Follow the student's IEP and district guidelines as appropriate

Qualifications

• Experience providing ASL interpreting services in a school or educational setting preferred

• Appropriate Virginia credentials/certification for educational interpreting (VQAS level 2 or higher)

• Strong ASL and English communication skills

• Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and school personnel
