Substitute Kitchen Assistant

Substitute Kitchen Assistant employees perform assigned tasks in designated areas related to the operation of successful food and nutrition programs within the school. A Substitute Kitchen Assistant is responsible to the Lead Assistant and/or the Food and Nutrition Manager.

Essential duties and responsibilities of position:

• Assists in food production.
• Can or must learn to operate typical commercial food preparation equipment such as slicers, steamers, ovens, and microwaves.
• Can or must learn to operate computerized POS equipment.
• Follows Manager's/Lead Assistant's instructions in preparing, portioning, and serving meals.
• Follows established sanitation and safety procedures in use and care of equipment, storing and serving food, and personal habits.
• Assists in maintaining daily-required forms.
• Participates in merchandising and promotional activities.
• Demonstrates a positive, cooperative attitude.
• Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
• Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements of the position:

• Has a good interpersonal communication skill.
• Able to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
• Able to lift 35 pounds on a recurring basis.
• Able to walk, bend, stoop, and reach without restrictions.

Salary: The rate of pay for a substitute kitchen assistant for the 2026-2027 school year is $15.00 per hour. This position will be eligible for applicable leave benefits as required by the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act and is eligible to participate in the 403b/457b retirement savings plan.
