Case Western Reserve University: RESEARCH ASSOCIATE/SCIENTIST: Case School of Engineering (RA/RS): Biomedical Engineering - CSE (RA/RS) Location Cleveland, OH, USA Open Date Sep 18, 2026 Description POSITION DESCRIPTION The Research Associate will conduct research under the direction of a faculty Principal Investigator, Dr. Anirban Sen Gupta, within the Bio-inspired Engineering for Advanced Therapies (BEAT) Laboratory. The Research Associate position in Sen Gupta laboratory requires essential experience and expertise in blood coagulation research using in vitro and in vivo models. The expected objectives are: - Evaluate vascular health protective therapies utilizing in vitro models and platforms - Evaluate vascular health protective therapies utilizing appropriate in vivo models - Evaluate novel vascular therapies to compare against current standard-of-care - Write technical and scientific reports in specified formats required by funding entities - Present and publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed outlets - Train undergraduate students to conduct research with scientific rigor and reproducibility ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS. Conduct experimental, computational, or theoretical research aligned with funded projects goals. Design and execute research methods with guidance from the Principal Investigator (45%) o Evaluate vascular health protective therapies utilizing in vitro models and platforms o Evaluate vascular health protective therapies utilizing appropriate in vivo models o Evaluate novel vascular therapies to compare against current standard-of-care Collect, analyze, and interpret research data; Maintain accurate research records and documentation in compliance with university, sponsor and regulatory requirements. Write technical and scientific reports in specified formats required by funding entities and in compliance with university policies. (25%) Prepare research results for publication, reports, and presentations; contribute to manuscripts, conference papers, and grant progress reports. Present and publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed outlets. (10%) Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals, including literature reviews, methods and preliminary data. Data from technical and scientific reports will be used for appropriate grant applications by the PI (Anirban Sen Gupta). (5%) Train and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research methods, laboratory protocols, and safety procedures as appropriate. The Research Associate will train undergraduates in appropriate research activities. (5%) Ensure compliance with university, sponsor, and safety requirements. All research conduct will remain compliant with university and sponsor policies and safety requirements. (5%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other duties as assigned in support of the research mission (5%) REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: PhD or other terminal degree in engineering or a closely related field and Experience: 0-3 years of post-degree research experience REQUIRED SKILLS 1. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research within a defined project scope. 2. Knowledge of research methods, data analysis techniques, and scientific writing appropriate to the field of specialization. 3. Ability to maintain accurate research records and comply with university, sponsor, and regulatory requirements. 4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare manuscripts, reports, and presentations. 5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team research environment with faculty, staff, and students. 6. Willingness to learn and work with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies. 7. Ability to demonstrate successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. 8. Ability to meet consistent attendance requirements. 9. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and collaborators face to face. PREFERRED SKILLS 1. Conduct research with human blood products 2. Experienced in multiple blood coagulation assays (biochemical assays, ELISA, aggregometry, viscoealstometry, microfluidics, fluorescence microscopy) 3. Experienced in in vivo models of hemostasis and thrombosis SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May provide training or mentorship to students and research staff WORKING CONDITIONS General laboratory and research environment. SALARY AND BENEFITS In compliance with the City of Cleveland's Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is from $52,000 - $80,000.
