Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
Nexus Children's Hospital Shenandoah is seeking a compassionate and skilled Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to join our interdisciplinary team serving adolescents with complex behavioral, psychiatric, developmental, and medical needs. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a specialized inpatient hospital environment where behavioral health and medical care intersect.
The BCBA will play a critical role in developing individualized behavioral treatment programs, supporting interdisciplinary care teams, training staff and caregivers, and helping patients achieve meaningful behavioral and functional outcomes.
Nexus Children's Hospital Shenandoah is a specialized pediatric and adolescent hospital providing integrated medical, behavioral, and rehabilitative care. Our programs support patients with neurodevelopmental disorders, autism spectrum disorder, Prader-Willi Syndrome, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral dysregulation, and complex medical conditions requiring coordinated interdisciplinary treatment.

Position Summary
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides behavior analytic assessment, treatment planning, intervention development, staff training, and family support services for adolescents and young adults with behavioral, developmental, and medical complexities. This role emphasizes clinical excellence, collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Essential Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence
- Conduct comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), preference assessments, and skill-based assessments.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) utilizing evidence-based ABA principles.
- Analyze behavioral data and adjust treatment strategies to maximize patient outcomes.
- Support patients exhibiting severe challenging behaviors, including aggression, self-injurious behavior, property destruction, food-seeking behaviors, elopement, and emotional dysregulation.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Develop and update behavioral treatment goals within interdisciplinary treatment plans.
- Utilize trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches to behavioral care.
- Provide clinical supervision and training to Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and direct care staff.
- Maintain knowledge of current BACB standards, behavioral research, and healthcare best practices.
Patient & Family Experience
- Promote a compassionate, patient-centered approach that respects the dignity and unique needs of each individual.
- Educate and empower caregivers through behavioral skills training and ongoing support.
- Develop family training plans to support generalization of skills and successful discharge planning.
- Assist families in understanding behavioral recommendations and strategies to improve outcomes across settings.
- Advocate for patients within healthcare, educational, and community systems.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with BACB Ethics Code, HIPAA regulations, payer requirements, and Nexus Health Systems policies.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer reviews, and clinical audits.
- Monitor behavioral outcome measures and program effectiveness through data-driven analysis.
- Promote patient safety and adherence to behavioral best practices throughout the organization.
Professional Development
- Maintain BCBA certification and required continuing education.
- Complete annual competency validations and required organizational education.
- Participate in professional conferences, workshops, and continuing education opportunities.
- Engage in peer consultation and interdisciplinary case review activities.
Financial Stewardship
- Promote responsible utilization of hospital resources while maintaining high-quality patient care.
- Collaborate with administrative teams regarding authorizations, documentation, and billing requirements.
- Monitor productivity standards and service utilization metrics.
- Support program growth and development initiatives.

Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree or higher in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing Applied Behavior Analysis services.
- Experience working with adolescents diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral disorders, psychiatric conditions, or Prader-Willi Syndrome preferred.
- Experience supporting individuals with severe challenging behaviors in inpatient, residential, behavioral health, or healthcare settings preferred.
- Experience within interdisciplinary treatment teams strongly preferred.
Skills
- Strong behavioral assessment, treatment planning, and data analysis skills.
- Ability to manage complex behavioral presentations utilizing evidence-based interventions.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and behavioral data collection systems.
- Strong clinical judgment, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
Licensure & Certifications
- Current Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification in good standing with the BACB.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (must remain valid for a minimum of six months from date of hire).
- De-escalation training required within 30 days of hire.
- Must maintain all required certifications and credentials throughout employment.
