High School Counselor

The Secondary School Counselor delivers comprehensive counseling services aligned to the ASCA National Model with a specialized emphasis on Colorado's statewide Postsecondary "Big Three" priorities:

• In-Demand Industry Credentials
• College Credit aligned to a clear postsecondary pathway
• High-quality, real-world Work-Based Learning opportunities

These priorities support state accountability goals related to postsecondary enrollment, persistence, and completion outcomes.

This SCCG-funded role supports students' transitions from middle school through graduation and into postsecondary education, workforce training, apprenticeship programs, military service, or industry certification pathways—ensuring access and success for all learners.

The counselor's work emphasizes keeping students engaged in the classroom, supporting academic achievement, fostering healthy peer-to-peer relationships, building resilience, and developing strong character. These foundational skills enable students to remain focused on their educational goals and successfully transition to postsecondary opportunities.

The counselor leads academic planning, FAFSA completion efforts, graduation pathway coordination, college and career programming, postsecondary applications, and student intervention services.

This role includes responsibility for implementing all required SCCG data collection, evaluation, and reporting activities.

Qualifications:

Education & Licensure:

• Master's Degree in School Counseling or related field required
• Colorado Special Services Provider License with School Counselor endorsement —OR— Eligibility for Temporary Educator Eligibility (TEE) Authorization

Experience & Skills:

• Secondary counseling or postsecondary advising experience preferred.
• Knowledge of:
• Colorado graduation pathways
• College access, credentialing, and workforce pathway systems
• FAFSA and postsecondary transitions
• Data-driven intervention design
• ASCA National Model
• Strategies that promote classroom engagement and academic achievement
• Character development and resilience-building approaches for secondary students

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to facilitate classroom presentations, meetings, and community events.
• Frequent standing, sitting, and walking.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
