Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Fiber Splicer role based in Yakima, WA. The Fiber Splicer will install, splice, and terminate fiber optic cables in backbone, middle-mile, and FTTH networks, following industry standards and project specifications. Daily responsibilities include reading and interpreting network designs and construction prints, performing fiber testing and troubleshooting, and documenting test results and work completed. The role involves working with aerial and underground fiber placements, maintaining safe work practices, and coordinating with field supervisors and engineering teams to ensure accurate builds and timely project delivery. The Fiber Splicer will also support quality assurance efforts, assist with network repairs and upgrades, and help optimize network performance in active field environments. Schedule: 4 x 10hrs (Monday – Thursday), Night Work & On-Call as required (Schedules subject to change) Primary Travel Hub: Ellensburg, WA (Transportation required to/from Ellensburg at start and end of week) Territory/Work Locations: Washington to start, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Arizona additionally Fiber Splicing: Perform high-quality single fusion and ribbon (mass fusion) splicing on fiber optic cables up to 864-count (experience up to 1728-count is a major plus). Testing & Troubleshooting: Utilize OTDRs, Optical Power Meters, and Visual Fault Locators (VFL) to perform end-to-end testing, document results, and isolate complex trouble spots. Central Office (CO) Operations: Apply basic working knowledge of Central Office setups, frame layouts, and patch panel management during cross-connects and cutovers. Cable Handling & Enclosures: Perform mid-sheath entries, prep and seal splicing enclosures, bond/ground cables, and maintain existing plant infrastructure. UG/AE Placement: Support underground (UG) and aerial (AE) cable placement activities. Documentation & Blueprints: Read, interpret, and update Outside Plant (OSP) schematics, splice diagrams, and engineering prints. Qualifications & Requirements Required Experience & Skills Experience: Proven hands-on experience with single and ribbon fiber splicing in an Outside Plant (OSP) environment. Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise with single fusion splicers, mass fusion splicers, and OTDR testing equipment. Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. (CDL preferred or required depending on bucket truck classification). Work Ethic & Professionalism: Self-starter mentality with high attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean, organized work setup. Adaptability: Willingness to learn new equipment and adapt to changing daily workflows. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with high-count fiber cables up to 864-count (experience up to 1728-count is a major plus). Hands-on experience with underground (UG) and aerial (AE) cable placement methods. Knowledge and Experience working with Bucket Trucks Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions across multiple states. Ability to climb, work in tight spaces, work aloft in bucket trucks, and lift up to 50–70 lbs as needed.
