Role Description The Fisheries Biologist (Upper Eel River Sacramento Pikeminnow Suppression and Monitoring Project) is a full-time, on-site role based in Nice, CA. The role involves planning and conducting field surveys focused on Sacramento pikeminnow suppression and monitoring native fish populations in the Upper Eel River. Daily tasks include implementing sampling protocols (e.g., electrofishing, netting, trapping), collecting biological and environmental data, and ensuring accurate data entry, management, and preliminary analysis. The Fisheries Biologist will assist in developing and documenting monitoring methodologies, prepare technical reports, and support presentations to internal teams, partners, and stakeholders. The position also requires coordinating field logistics, maintaining field and safety equipment, adhering to relevant regulations and permitting conditions, and working collaboratively with other staff and partner agencies to support conservation goals.

Compensation: $27-$33/hour DOE

Qualifications

• Strong background in fisheries management and fisheries science, with experience applying management principles to native and non-native fish populations.

• Knowledge of fish biology and ecology, including identification of regional species and understanding of aquatic ecosystem dynamics.

• Experience working with wildlife and familiarity with broader wildlife conservation practices that intersect with fisheries projects.

• Demonstrated field work skills, including safely conducting aquatic surveys, handling equipment, working in remote environments, and following established protocols.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in fisheries biology, aquatic ecology, wildlife biology, natural resources, or a closely related field.

• Ability to collect, organize, and interpret quantitative data; proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and basic statistical tools is beneficial.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, documenting methods, and communicating findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
