Sub Welder (MIG)- 1st Shift

Sub WelderOur customer in Machesney Park, Illinois is seeking a motivated Sub Welder to join their team. We're recruiting for a full-time, 1st-shift position. As a Sub Welder, you will develop foundational welding and fabrication skills while performing sub-weld operations, including equipment setup, print interpretation, component fit-up, welding, finishing, inspection, and repair.Responsibilities of the Sub Welder:Set up welding equipment to required specifications.Read and interpret sub-weld fabrication prints to determine weld type, location, and length.Measure components using standard inches and metric millimeters.Use levels and squares to verify component location, fit-up, and alignment.Perform common welding applications, including fillet welds and short vertical-down welds.Tack, bevel, fit, clean, and prepare components for welding.Locate required materials, verify sheet-metal dimensions and part numbers, and identify missing components.Complete routine sub-weld repairs.Fit up legs and ends with limited assistance as proficiency increases.Operate crane equipment after completing required training and certification.Complete production documentation and work sign-offs.Safely use and store hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, clamps, fixtures, grinders, and other work-center equipment in accordance with 5S requirements.Use required welding PPE and work safely around forklifts, cranes, production aisles, work zones, and material-storage areas.Provide flexible support across production areas as needed.Sub Welder Requirements and Qualifications:High school diploma or GED required.1-3 years of trade training or experience as a MIG welder required.At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment required.Ability to obtain D1.1 Flat certification within 30 days of starting the position.Ability to read and understand English and follow verbal and written work instructions.Basic proficiency in welding, fit-up, fabrication techniques, and weld repair.Ability to read basic fabrication prints and access electronic prints using basic computer skills.Ability to accurately measure components using standard and metric measurements.Ability to safely operate crane equipment after required training and certification.Understanding of welding PPE, shop safety, material-handling awareness, quality standards, and 5S requirements.Ability to stand, walk, bend, and use hands and fingers for 8+ hours; overtime may be required.Ability to lift and move parts weighing up to 40 pounds and work with team members to handle larger parts.Pay for Sub Welder: $23.00–$25.00/hour.
