Part-Time HR & Payroll Professional

Location: Novato, CA (on-site) Employment Type: Part-Time, 24–30 hours/week Pay Rate: ~$50/hour, DOE

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented HR & Payroll Professional to support our team on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for a hands-on HR professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats — managing payroll processing, supporting core HR functions, and ensuring compliance across a growing organization. Key Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly/semi-monthly payroll accurately and on time, including deductions, garnishments, and off-cycle payments
• Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
• Administer employee benefits enrollment, changes, and reconciliation with carriers
• Support onboarding and offboarding processes, including new hire paperwork and I-9 verification
• Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS/payroll system
• Respond to employee questions regarding pay, benefits, and HR policies
• Assist with compliance reporting (e.g., EEO, workers' comp, ACA)
• Support HR leadership with policy updates, employee relations documentation, and audits as needed
• Ensure timely filing of payroll taxes and year-end reporting (W-2s, 1099s)

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in payroll processing and general HR administration
• Working knowledge of California employment law and wage/hour regulations
• Experience with payroll/HRIS platforms (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Gusto, Paylocity, or similar)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a part-time capacity

Preferred Qualifications

• PHR, SHRM-CP, or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
• Experience working with ADP Workforce Now
• Experience supporting small to mid-sized organizations
• Familiarity with multi-state payroll a plus

Schedule

24–30 hours per week, with some flexibility on scheduling to accommodate payroll deadlines and HR needs.

Compensation

~$50/hour, commensurate with experience.
