Start Date: ASAP Position Overview We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Career Advisor I to help job seekers identify career opportunities, overcome barriers to employment, and successfully pursue their professional goals. The Career Advisor provides career counseling, coaching, case management, and workforce development services to individuals with varying levels of experience and employment needs. This position works directly with job seekers to assess their skills and interests, identify appropriate workforce programs and training opportunities, develop employment strategies, and connect participants with resources that support long-term career success. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator who enjoys helping people, can manage an active caseload, and has strong organizational, documentation, and customer service skills. Physical & Work Requirements This position primarily operates in an office environment. Physical requirements may include sitting, standing, walking, bending, and occasionally lifting up to 10 pounds. The position requires appropriate visual acuity, speech, and hearing to perform essential responsibilities. Occasional driving or local travel may be required, and flexible hours may occasionally be necessary based on program needs. - Conduct comprehensive career assessments to identify occupational interests, aptitudes, vocational skills, employment history, abilities, training needs, and potential barriers to employment.
- Provide career counseling and coaching to help participants establish realistic short-term and long-term employment goals.
- Guide job seekers through career development and exploration using aptitude assessments, interviewing techniques, resume development, and other career-planning resources.
- Recommend appropriate local, state, and federal workforce programs and services based on participant needs and eligibility.
- Conduct participant intake and determine eligibility for applicable grant-funded workforce programs .
- Provide relevant labor market information, including employment opportunities, qualifications, industry trends, and expected compensation.
- Educate participants on effective job-search strategies and current hiring trends.
- Assist job seekers with resume development, mock interviews, interview preparation, and employment search strategies.
- Provide information regarding educational and occupational training opportunities, approved training providers, financial aid, and available scholarships.
- Refer participants to appropriate occupational skills training, work-based training, apprenticeships, employability programs, and professional development opportunities.
- Prepare and submit Individual Training Account, ITA, work-based training, and supportive service requests in a timely manner.
- Connect participants with appropriate internal and external support services to help address barriers that may interfere with employment or training success.
- Maintain continuous contact with assigned participants, providing ongoing case management, career advising, and progress monitoring.
- Monitor participant progress toward established academic, training, and occupational goals.
- Partner with internal business solutions teams to identify employment opportunities for program participants.
- Proactively screen and refer qualified participants to appropriate employment opportunities, with particular focus on training-related career development.
- Develop productive working relationships with team members, employers, community partners, workforce organizations, and the public.
- Maintain accurate participant information, service codes, case notes, and required documentation within designated management information systems.
- Ensure participant case files meet or exceed applicable local, state, and federal quality assurance requirements .
- Identify opportunities to improve workforce services based on participant and labor market needs.
- Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong case management, analytical, organizational, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and individuals with varying employment needs and communication styles.
- Ability to professionally manage challenging or stressful customer situations.
- Strong attention to participant needs and ability to demonstrate empathy while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, computer systems, and related technology.
- Ability to accurately document services, case notes, and participant activity.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, coworkers, Board staff, community partners, and the public.
- Ability to work onsite in Fort Worth, TX 76119 , Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Associate degree or undergraduate degree.
- Previous workforce development experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with workforce development, economic development, career counseling, case management, or related programs.
- Experience working with grant-funded, government-funded, or workforce programs.
- Knowledge of career development, employment services, and workforce resources.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
- Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and a good driving record for occasional business-related travel.
- Knowledge of workforce development, economic development, and project management principles.
- Understanding of career counseling and individual case management practices.
- Knowledge of effective conflict-resolution techniques.
- Strong interviewing and career-coaching skills.
- Ability to evaluate participant needs and recommend appropriate workforce resources and services.
- Ability to effectively manage a caseload while meeting documentation and quality requirements.
- Ability to use technology and electronic resources to support career exploration and job-search activities.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
