Adjunct Faculty, Physics

Job Description This position is a part‑time adjunct faculty teaching physics courses at Lone Star College‑North Harris. Adjunct faculty are hired on a semester‑by‑semester basis and may teach up to five classes per academic year. Core responsibility is to plan, develop and teach physics courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Essential Job Functions Teach physics courses at a variety of times and locations. Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of material. Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner. Utilize a course syllabus for each course following institutional guidelines. Meet with and advise students before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods. Evaluate students to measure progress toward course objectives and inform students in a timely manner of their progress. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community. Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required. Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Mastery of course content. Demonstrated leadership skills with a collaborative, teamwork, and facilitation style. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people. Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies. Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and a dynamic climate for lifelong learning. Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and effective use of technology. Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning. Physical Abilities Work is sedentary; may involve walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving an automobile; no special physical demands required. Work Schedule and Conditions Use of PC workstation, calculator, phone, and other office equipment within a Microsoft Windows environment. Interface with internal and external contacts as needed. Work performed in a climate‑controlled classroom or lab with minimal exposure to safety hazards. Hours vary depending on class time; instructor must meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside instruction. Required Qualifications Master's degree in physics or a closely related physical science, or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in physics or a closely related physical science. Salary $55.44 per contact hour.
