Direct Support Professional - Growth Path & Certification

Responsibilities Assist individuals with all aspects of their lives— from helping them pick out the decorations for the living room to helping them to cook dinner for their housemates. Support individuals to be as independent as possible, especially those who do not use spoken language as their mode of communication. Act as patient, active listeners who are able to interpret the actions rather than the words of the individuals being supported. Collaborate with coworkers and our Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDP) to add information to the Individual's Plan and develop interventions. Communicate questions and concerns to the dedicated management team as we continuously evaluate our policies and practices, modifying them as needed. Attend continuous training provided in-house by the Staff Development team and use the Ohio Alliance for Direct Support Professional’s (OADSP) curriculum during new‑hire training. Start career at TLC with the OADSP Basic Certificate, followed by hands‑on, in‑house training with an experienced staff member as a Mentor. Earn certification to move up the career ladder and offer the opportunity to earn more through OADSP certificates of Initial and Advanced Proficiency. Training and Development Each new staff member starts their career at TLC with the OADSP Basic Certificate, followed by hands‑on, in‑house training with an experienced staff member as a Mentor. TLC offers the opportunity to become med. pass certified and earn your Certificates of Initial and Advanced Proficiency from OADSP.
