The Program Coordinator works closely with the Dean of the School of Education, doctoral faculty, dissertation chairs, and College offices to support high-quality doctoral programming and ensure students are effectively guided from admission through degree completion.
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and continuous improvement of the EdD programs, including student advising and progression, curriculum and course scheduling, dissertation processes, faculty coordination, recruitment and enrollment efforts, and program assessment. The Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for doctoral students and faculty and helps ensure consistency in program expectations, policies, procedures, and academic standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide leadership and oversight for the Doctor of Education and Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership programs.
- Advise prospective and current doctoral students regarding program requirements, course sequencing, academic progress, and degree completion.
- Monitor doctoral student progression and identify students who may need additional guidance or support.
- Coordinate doctoral course schedules and proposed teaching assignments in collaboration with the Dean.
- Coordinate the doctoral dissertation process, including student progression through prospectus, proposal, research, defense, and final dissertation completion.
- Support the assignment and coordination of dissertation chairs and committee members.
- Communicate dissertation expectations, procedures, timelines, and deadlines to doctoral students and faculty.
- Work with dissertation chairs to promote consistency in expectations and processes across committees.
- Facilitate regular communication and meetings with doctoral faculty to address curriculum, student progress, dissertation processes, and program needs.
- Review and support the continued development of doctoral curriculum to ensure coherence, rigor, relevance, and alignment with program goals.
- Coordinate program assessment and use data and stakeholder feedback to support continuous program improvement.
- Assist with recruitment, information sessions, prospective student communication, and other enrollment initiatives for the EdD programs.
- Collaborate with Admissions and other College offices to support prospective and enrolled doctoral students.
- Assist with orientation and other doctoral student events and milestones.
- Maintain appropriate program records, handbooks, forms, procedures, and other doctoral program resources.
- Teach doctoral-level courses as assigned.
- Chair and/or serve on dissertation committees as appropriate.
- Maintain scholarly and professional activity consistent with faculty expectations and the mission of the School of Education.
- Participate in School of Education and College service.
- Contributes to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS
- Earned doctorate in Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Successful experience teaching at the graduate and/or doctoral level.
- Successful experience as a P–12 school or district administrator.
- Experience working with doctoral students, including dissertation advising, chairing, or committee service.
- Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, administrators, and other stakeholders.
- Experience chairing doctoral dissertations, preferred.
- Experience with curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement, preferred.
- Evidence of scholarly activity appropriate to the position, preferred.
- Experience supporting recruitment, retention, and successful completion of graduate or doctoral students, preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Primarily sedentary work: Extended periods sitting at a desk, working on a computer, reviewing documents, scheduling courses, responding to email, and completing administrative tasks.
- Computer and keyboard use: Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
- Occasional walking and standing: Moving between offices, classrooms, meetings, and College departments; occasional standing during meetings or student/faculty interactions.
- Meetings and presentations: Ability to attend and potentially facilitate meetings, orientations, doctoral events, and presentations, sometimes for extended periods.
- Light lifting/carrying: May occasionally need to carry or move files, documents, laptops, presentation materials, or office supplies. Typically, this would involve light loads rather than heavy physical labor.

- Visual demands: Sustained ability to read computer screens, documents, student records, dissertations, and other written materials.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The EdD Program Coordinator works in a professional, academic, and office-based environment within the School of Education. The position requires regular, in-person interaction with doctoral students, faculty, dissertation chairs, the Dean, and administrative staff across the institution.
The position is not remote or hybrid and requires the employee to work on campus on a regular, full-time basis. The work environment is generally quiet and climate-controlled, with most duties performed in an office setting and through meetings in offices, conference rooms, and classrooms.
The work may involve frequent interruptions, competing priorities, deadlines, and interactions with individuals requiring academic or administrative assistance. Occasional evening or weekend activities may be necessary for doctoral orientations, recruitment events, program meetings, or other College activities, depending on program needs.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is not routinely required for this position. In limited circumstances, PPE may be required in accordance with institutional safety procedures, public health guidance, or specific school activities or events.
