CTRC Job Specific Competencies Administer and monitor a variety of systemic cancer therapies and other injectable infusions to an adult population in the Clinical & Translational Research Center. Infusions administered may include research protocols and standard of care chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, blood products, IVIG, growth factors, antibiotics, electrolytes, and hydration. Perform accurate administration and monitoring of infusions via a variety of routes (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous). Perform an independent double‑check for chemotherapy administration. Safely handle and dispose of chemotherapy to minimize patient and staff exposure to hazardous drugs. Manage treatment‑related side effects and adverse reactions, and minimize the risk for infection among patients who are or potentially immunocompromised. Facilitate early detection of specific side effects to enable effective self‑management when they occur. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Assess and educate patients and family/caregivers to ensure future care needs are met. Develop collaborative, professional relationships with physicians and all members of the health care team, including research teams. Maintain IV insertion and venous access device management skills. Perform safe handling and disposal of hazardous drugs. Knowledge needed to facilitate early detection of specific side effects for effective self‑management. Education Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing (RN). Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Experience Required: One year of relevant clinical nursing experience. Preferred: Two years of nursing experience administering outpatient chemotherapy infusion. Licensure / Certification Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area. Preferred: Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) or certification in oncology or specialty area. On‑site Presence Required.
