The position is salaried and includes eligibility for overtime pay.Matrix Technologies is looking for energetic and customer-focused piping designers who would like to be part of a team environment. This position will be the lead designer for process and utility piping systems across food and beverage, specialty chemical, consumer products, and metals production facilities, as well as emerging sectors such as battery manufacturing and EV charging. Individuals will take ownership of design execution both as a single project resource interfacing directly with our clients and as a key member of multi-discipline project teams, while providing technical leadership by directing and guiding junior designers in the execution of work. This includes actively mentoring team members to support their growth and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality work. The ideal candidates will bring demonstrated expertise in industrial piping system design, including the development and checking of piping deliverables across conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases using 3D modeling and design software, along with strong technical leadership, mentoring, and a focus on quality and consistency.SpecificationsLegally eligible to work in the United StatesAssociates or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field experience with piping fabrication and installation12+ years of piping design experiencePreferred Industry experience (one or more of the following): Food & Beverage, Specialty Chemical, Metals, Oil and GasGood written and oral communication skillsAbility to quickly learn and apply new tools and standards across projects and clientsAbility to efficiently multitask between multiple projectsAbility to lead design execution through coordination, delegation, and review of team deliverables while mentoring junior designers and draftersAbility to review and check piping design deliverables for accuracy, completeness, constructability and consistencyAbility to effectively collaborate with Project Managers and project Team Leads to deliver project scope and deliverablesAbility to develop and maintain positive client relationshipsAbility to travel 25% to 30% locallyAbility to travel 10% overnightKnowledge and SkillsKnowledge of industry best practices and standards with regard to Piping Design and LayoutsAbility to gather field data and prepare project documentationAbility to read P&IDs and extract necessary informationAbility to perform design, engineering calculations, and functions in accordance with accepted practices, company standards, and client specificationsAbility to create, update, and maintain engineering drawings including:Piping PlansPiping DetailsIsometricsProficiency in a computer-aided design tool such as Plant 3D or AutoCADPreference Will Be Given To Candidates With The Following Additional Experience and Skills:Experience utilizing 3D scans (point clouds) and working with 3D modelsKnowledge of Revit, BIM360, or Navisworks ManageAbility to prepare project scopes of work, preliminary design concepts, cost estimates, and construction packages for small to medium size projects ($50,000 to $5,000,000 total installed cost)Experience with steam or hot oil system designAbility to develop P&IDsPhysical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand;
