Job Title Registered Nurse – Acute Care (Relief, Variable) Reporting To Department Manager/Director Department Varies Position Overview The RN provides quality patient and family centered care as a member of the health care team in accordance with St.Charles Health System mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures. The RN oversees the work of other caregivers, providing specific care to assigned patient(s) throughout the shift, as required under the scope of the RN licensure. Responsibilities Maintain and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques and apply this knowledge in accordance with St.Charles Health System policies, procedures and state laws. Assess the patient’s condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment: set outcomes, implement appropriate nursing actions and collaborate with other disciplines to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, social and intellectual needs; evaluate patient’s progress. Calculate dosages and administer medications accurately in accordance with St.Charles Health System policies and procedures for medication administration. Document all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory agencies. Demonstrate awareness of and support departmental and unit goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities. Participate in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others. Communicate effectively, both written and orally, and maintain professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients and guests. Identify work‑related problems with possible solutions and implement solutions within scope of practice. Support the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects. Support Value Improvement Practice (VIP‑Lean) principles of continuous improvement and act as a champion of change. Participate in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver. Provide a therapeutic presence in service to others by responding to patient needs in a caring way, including introduction, role explanation, asking for preferred name, active listening and appropriate communication. Maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests. Conduct all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures and act in an ethical and appropriate manner. Deliver customer service and/or patient care that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate. Perform on‑call callback as assigned (varies by department). Perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization if required or assigned. Education & Certification Required: RN licensure in Oregon. Preferred: BSN. Required: Current Oregon RN license, AHA Basic Life Support certification. Preferred: Department specific acute care certification (e.g., CNRN, ONC, RNC, OCN, CRRN). Experience Required: None. Preferred: Department specific acute care experience. Physical Requirements 75% or more: Standing and walking, keyboard operation, clear audible speaking. 50%: Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1‑25 lbs; operation of a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers. 25%: Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step‑stool, reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25‑50 lbs; grasping/squeezing; hearing whispered speech. 10%: Climbing stairs. 0%: Climbing ladder/step‑stool (varies by area), operation of a motor vehicle. Exposure: Rarely (10%): Wet/slippery area, chemical solution. Never (0%): Heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface. Blood‑borne pathogen exposure risk category. Additional Position Information Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St.Charles Health System. Excellent organizational and multi‑tasking skills. Strong teamwork and collaborative skills. Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Basic to intermediate computer application skills, specifically electronic medical records system and MS Office.
