About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS (AHA) Required Must-Have: - Travel experience required - Strong knowledge in MedSurg and Infectious Disease - Experience with isolation precautions Description: This position is in a Medical Surgical unit specializing in Infectious Diseases. The unit has 18 beds, all private rooms due to the nature of the diseases treated. Patient-to-nurse ratios are typically 1:5-6, with 1:4 if COVID patients are present. RNs will work alongside a Charge Nurse available 24/7. During shifts, RNs may be expected to take on a full patient assignment. There are 2 CNAs per shift to assist nurses. Common diagnoses include a variety of Infectious Diseases such as MRSA, COVID, and C-Diff. RNs should have experience titrating drips, including heparin and other standard MedSurg IV medications. Patients may require CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen, with respiratory therapy managing these needs. Remote telemetry is utilized, with monitor techs available, meaning RNs will not need to interpret telemetry strips. RNs will be scheduled based on unit needs, with a requirement for every-other-weekend shifts. Holiday shifts will be determined based on unit needs, with travelers expected to cover if permanent staff is unavailable. Traveling RNs may be floated to other MedSurg units as necessary. Dress code includes royal blue scrubs, with specific guidelines for scrub jackets. RNs will receive unit-specific orientation with support from preceptors in the initial days of the assignment. Cancellation policy allows for a limited number of shift cancellations during the assignment.
