Mobile Diesel Mechanic II

Job Description Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment: electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, etc. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling, air‑conditioning, engine electronics, diesel steering, transmissions, clutches, differentials. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using handheld computers and pressure gauges. Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation. Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment. Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections. Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems. Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work and time allocation. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work according to company standards, upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using the company’s iOS device and TRAIT application. Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion. Work independently, managing own daily schedule and maintaining a high level of productivity within standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed. Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). Maintain company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections. Requirements High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience. Alternatively, a combination of a higher degree or certification beyond a HS diploma and 5 years of experience. Possess a set of hand tools necessary for job duties. Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months. Must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical. Current and valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining until expiration, or complete a DOT physical if less than 4 months remain. At least 21 years old, safe driver, valid driver’s license, and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File. Valid state-of-residence driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File. Preferred Certifications ASE T3 (Drivetrain) ASE T4 (Brakes) ASE T5 (Suspension) ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems)
