Deli Clerk – Vendedor Del DeliDeli personnel assist the customers with their requests for a variety of meat and cheese while providing excellent customer service.Personal del Deli ayuda a los clientes con sus peticiones para una variedad de carne y queso, mientras que proporciona un excelente servicio al cliente.Essential duties and responsibilities:Ensure customers to are taken care of by answering questions regarding products sold within the departmentRemain knowledgeable about the products sold within the departmentCut, slice, weigh and package deli items pursuant to customers' requestsLift and carry merchandise back and forth between display coolers, countertops, slicers, cutting boards, refrigerators and freezersCheck product quality to ensure freshness. Review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action. Rotate product by date to maintain freshnessMaintain refrigerated cases with appetizing displays of products for saleKeep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; Maintain awareness of floor conditions; ensure all safety measures are taken to protect customers, vendors and employeesWash, sanitize, and store knives and other department utensils and equipment properlyUse and maintain all equipment in meat department according to company guidelines (refrigerators, freezers, slicers, etc.,); report any equipment malfunctions to managerMaintain all requirements for a sanitary work area to keep food safe from contamination; adhere to department procedures with all aspects of federal, state, local and company health, safety and sanitation codesWhen working the end of day shift, complete all required cleaning procedures including, but not limited to hosing down the floor, cleaning countertops, slicers, etc.Report all accidents promptly according to company proceduresAttend and participate in departmental and store meetingsPunctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policiesPerforms other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the positionSecondary duties and responsibilities:Assist with back room production as needed (wrapping and/or packaging)Label, stock and inventory department merchandiseStay current with present, future, seasonal and special adsAssist with Meat and Seafood areas when neededAssist with unloading and/or verifying merchandise off meat delivery trucks when neededQualifications:Minimum requirements - education and/or experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED), minimum of 18 years of age and previous deli experience or training requiredCompetencies, skills and/or qualifications:Ability to properly use department equipment such as knives, scale, slicer, etc., to accomplish the essential duties of the positionPossess adequate knife handling skillsAbility to read, write and speak English and Spanish preferredAbility to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferredAbility and willingness to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with managers, co-workers and customersVery good interpersonal skillsTakes responsibility for own actionsAbility to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekendsBasic math and numerical skills required including weights, measures and identifying product codesAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram formDemonstrates accuracy and thoroughnessPhysical demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:Stand and walkUse fingers and handsReach with hands and armsUse repetitive motion with hands and armsTalk and hearUse sense of smellClose vision, have eye-hand coordination and peripheral visionThe employee is frequently required to:Carry, lift and/or move departmental products and merchandisePush and pull carts of departmental products and merchandiseStoop or bend at the waistTwist back and/or neckThe employee is occasionally-to rarely required to:Crouch or bend at the kneesSitClimb or BalanceWork environment:The individual performs duties in a grocery store environment. He or she maintains frequent contact with supervisors, employees and customers. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.In this position, there is the frequent use of gloves, knives, meat and cheese slicers, wrapping device, case cutters, stock cart, refrigerators, freezers, coolers, and cleaning supplies and equipment. Floor surfaces may get slippery therefore caution and safety is mandatory.
