A Better Truck Cap & Hitch is a locally owned truck-accessory business serving Northeast Ohio since 1987. We specialize in truck caps, tonneau covers, hitches, running boards, bed protection, and other products that help customers get more from their trucks.

We are looking for an experienced, dependable Installer who can maintain high installation standards, and keep daily shop operations running smoothly.

Position Summary

The Installer is a hands-on leadership position responsible for completing professional installations.

The right candidate is mechanically capable, organized, calm under pressure. This position requires someone who is willing to work alongside the team.

Primary Responsibilities

Install truck caps, tonneau covers, trailer hitches, wiring, running boards, bed liners, toolboxes, ladder racks, and other truck accessories.
Diagnose installation issues and determine practical, safe solutions.
Read product instructions, wiring diagrams, and vehicle-specific installation requirements.
Use hand tools, power tools, lifts, electrical testing equipment, and other shop equipment safely.
Protect customer vehicles from scratches, damage, dirt, and unnecessary wear.
Verify that all installed products operate properly before the vehicle is returned to the customer.
Assist other installers with technically difficult or unfamiliar jobs.

Make sure jobs are started and completed on time.
Quality Control
Inspect completed installations before customer delivery.
Confirm that hardware is secure, wiring is protected, products are aligned properly, and the vehicle is clean.
Identify installation errors before they become customer complaints or warranty claims.
Document product defects, missing parts, vehicle damage, or unusual installation conditions.

Coordinate with the front counter regarding job timing, product availability, special instructions, and customer expectations.
Provide accurate updates when a job is delayed or additional work is required.
Communicate parts shortages, damaged products, or incorrect orders before they disrupt the schedule.
Explain technical issues to customers in a clear and respectful manner when needed.
Confirm that required products, hardware, and installation materials are available before work begins.
Help receive, inspect, organize, and stage incoming products.
Keep tools, equipment, installation areas, and storage spaces organized.
Report damaged, missing, or unsafe tools and equipment.
Help reduce wasted materials, prevent avoidable product damage, and control rework.
Follow all workplace safety procedures and maintain a clean, professional shop.

Qualifications

Previous experience installing automotive, truck, trailer, RV, commercial vehicle, or aftermarket accessories.
Strong mechanical ability and familiarity with automotive electrical systems.
Experience with trailer-hitch installation and vehicle wiring is strongly preferred.
Ability to diagnose problems and make sound decisions without constant supervision.
Ability to manage multiple jobs and changing priorities.
Strong attendance and dependability.
Professional communication skills with employees and customers.
Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Ability to safely operate customer vehicles, including pickup trucks and larger commercial vehicles.
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy or awkward products with assistance.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work with tools throughout the day.

A successful Installer will:

Complete installations correctly and efficiently.
Keep the installation bays organized and productive.
Maintain clear communication between the shop and front counter.
Develop installers instead of simply correcting their mistakes.
Catch problems before vehicles are returned to customers.
Reduce rework, callbacks, product damage, and scheduling delays.

Schedule

This is a full-time, in-person position. The Installer must be available during normal store and installation hours and may occasionally need to stay beyond the scheduled end of the day to complete a customer vehicle or resolve an operational issue.
