Job title Electrical Reliability Engineer Grade 33-35 ($98,500-$136,895) Location Battleground Manufacturing Complex – La Porte, TX Organizational context and job purpose INEOS is a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and oil products. It comprises 28 businesses each with a major chemical company heritage. Its production network spans 148 sites in 26 countries throughout the world. The INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA business is a major participant in the North American chemical industry, with an annual manufacturing capacity of 9.6 billion pounds of petrochemicals. Manufacturing sites include Chocolate Bayou Works (Alvin, TX), Battleground Manufacturing Complex (La Porte, TX), and Carson (Carson, CA), with a corporate office in League City, TX. The 300‑acre INEOS Battleground Manufacturing Complex (BMC) was originally built in 1956 and is located on the Houston ship channel east of Houston, Texas. Currently, BMC produces both high‑density polyethylene and polypropylene. The polypropylene line has a capacity of approximately 320 million pounds per year, and the seven polyethylene lines have a combined capacity of approximately 3 billion pounds per year. The BMC site has a state‑of‑the‑art technical center which integrates research and development, technical services and quality assurance. Purpose of the job This role is part of the Electrical Reliability Team at the Battleground Manufacturing Complex and reports to the Electrical Reliability Team Lead. The team consists of engineers, specialists, and technicians responsible for supporting the site’s electrical distribution systems and driving reliability improvements across the facility. This is a hands‑on plant electrical engineering role focused on troubleshooting, reliability improvement, and support of an operating chemical facility. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, and technical teams to diagnose and resolve issues in electrical power and control systems, while improving the long‑term reliability of plant equipment. The role requires regular field engagement and strong collaboration with operations, maintenance, and technical teams. Responsibilities and accountabilities Troubleshooting & Plant Support (Primary Focus) Lead and support troubleshooting of electrical power and control systems, including: Motor control centers (MCCs) Medium and low voltage motors Power transformers Switchgear and breaker systems Main‑tie‑main electrical distribution systems Diagnose issues involving: Motor starters (across‑the‑line, soft starters, VFDs) Protective relays and trip events Breaker control circuits and interlocks Provide technical support during electrical disturbances and outages, including off‑hours support as needed Partner with maintenance and operations to safely execute repairs and restore equipment to service Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on equipment failures and develop corrective actions Lead / Participate in formal and informal investigation teams as required for motor failures, nuisance trips, electrical equipment damage events, and power system disturbances Reliability & Continuous Improvement Identify and implement electrical reliability improvements Analyze equipment test data and failure trends Develop and improve preventive and predictive maintenance strategies Track and improve reliability KPIs Power System Support Support and maintain power system studies, including: Load flow Short circuit Protective device coordination Arc flash analysis Apply study results to real‑world system operation and troubleshooting Configure and program microprocessor‑based protective relays (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin) to support system protection, coordination, and reliability Analyze relay settings and event data to support system performance and continuous improvement Projects & Technical Oversight Support electrical scope for capital and expense projects, including: Design review Equipment specification Startup and commissioning Ensure compliance with INEOS and site electrical standards, accepted engineering practices, and safety requirements Apply company standards consistently across projects, maintenance activities, and system modifications Identify gaps or improvement opportunities in existing standards and develop updates to enhance reliability, safety, and maintainability Contribute to the creation, review, and continuous improvement of site and corporate electrical engineering standards and best practices Field Leadership & Collaboration Provide field leadership during outages, turnarounds, and emergent repairs Work closely with EDS specialists, I&E technicians and operations personnel Perform equipment walkdowns and condition assessments Support Management of Change (MOC) activities Assist in identifying/executing scope for turnarounds including all electrical PMs, reliability improvements, and other tasks requiring an outage to complete. Low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (480V through 138kV) Medium and low voltage motors and motor‑driven equipment Motor control centers (MCCs) and motor starters (across‑the‑line, soft starters, VFDs) Power transformers and associated protection systems Switchgear, bus systems, and breaker controls Main‑tie‑main distribution systems and bus transfer schemes Protective relays and control systems (SEL, GE Multilin, etc.) Industrial control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and associated I/O systems This job description is not all‑inclusive and may evolve based on business needs. Skills & Knowledge Required Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) Experience in an operating industrial facility (petrochemical, refining, manufacturing, etc.) Demonstrated hands‑on experience troubleshooting electrical systems Ability to read and interpret: Electrical one‑line diagrams Motor control schematics Protection and control drawings Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems from low voltage through medium voltage Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of relevant industrial electrical experience Experience with main‑tie‑main systems and bus transfer schemes Protective relay experience (SEL, GE Multilin) Familiarity with SKM or similar power system software NFPA 70E training EIT or PE certification Experience with PLCs and control systems What Success Looks Like Quickly builds knowledge of the plant electrical distribution system Effectively supports troubleshooting and restoration during electrical events Identifies and implements improvements that reduce equipment failures Develops strong working relationships with maintenance and operations Becomes a trusted technical resource for plant electrical systems Additional Information This role requires frequent field presence in an operating plant environment 9/80 work schedule available, with flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement 4/10 work schedule available for candidates preferring a consistent in‑office presence Occasional visits to vendor shops or repair facilities may be required; travel is expected to be less than 10% INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA is an equal opportunity employer.
