Electronics Specialist II - ($1000 Monthly Housing Allowance)

Job Overview The Electronic Specialist II will work at the Golden location, inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and documenting fiber‑optic and ITS assets. The role supports both statewide and regional ITS teams in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber, broadband, cellular equipment, and other communication systems. Responsibilities Maintain and troubleshoot a variety of ITS devices such as traffic signals, tunnel control systems, cameras, variable message boards, weather systems, data collection devices, and other intelligent technologies. Perform diagnostics and repairs on communication, power, and device‑specific issues, including power cycling and damage repairs. Conduct fiber optic maintenance, including testing and splicing fiber laterals, and troubleshooting lateral paths through pull boxes and manholes. Execute repairs and upgrades to electrical, power, and communication infrastructure, escalating complex work to supervisors or work leads. Operate utility‑locating equipment and work near live electric, gas, water, and other utility lines. Plan and implement traffic control plans for maintenance activities at roadside locations. Maintain vehicles and tools, including pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and regular equipment cleaning. Calibrate and maintain tools, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition. Other duties as assigned. Work Environment Primary work hours 6:00 am–4:30 pm, Monday‑Thursday. Approximately 90% of time spent in the field, 10% in the office. Travel required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range and may include overnight travel within the state. Work in extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions. Operation of CDOT vehicles required. Minimum Qualifications At least two years of technical experience maintaining, repairing, installing, modifying, calibrating, certifying, or fabricating electronics or fiber‑optic communications equipment. Experience primarily in telecommunications, fiber optics, video systems, wireless networks, radios, or ITS. OR a combination of related education and at least two years of equivalent experience. Education must be from an accredited institution in fiber‑optic systems, electronics, electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or a closely related field. A copy of the transcript must be provided. Must pass a pre‑employment screening, including background checks and a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B within six months of hire. Essential Services Designation required to report to duties without delay or interruption. Must be able to respond within thirty minutes of notification to the assigned workstation. Must provide a reachable telephone number for emergency reporting. Preferred Qualifications State service experience related to the position’s duties. Demonstrated success performing duties listed in the responsibilities section. Strong work ethic, integrity, and interpersonal skills. Experience with power and hand tools, locating equipment, bucket trucks or pole cat equipment. Knowledge of fiber optics theory, digital and analog electronic theory, telecommunications, and wireless network principles. Experience installing, repairing, or troubleshooting diverse electronic systems and equipment. Proficiency in using point‑to‑point, point‑to‑multi‑point, microwave, and other wireless communication systems. Understanding of fiber‑optic handling, termination, testing equipment, and splicing. Familiarity with traffic signal control systems and MUTCD. Ability to interpret and apply electronic schematics. Proven ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize, and solve problems innovatively. Strong technical detail orientation, safety mindset, and project management skills. Fluency in MS Word, MS Excel, SAP, and related software.
