- Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
- Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
- Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, and language impairments.
- Provides screening to identify children with speech and language disabilities at regular intervals and at specified levels.
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community.
- Provides appropriate services to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggesting the student's daily activities.
- Provides information and support to parents and families. Maintains Individual Educational Plans for all students assigned to caseloads, meeting timelines.
- Provides progress reports on goals and objectives.
- Maintains all student records, evaluations, and IEPs.
- An earned master's degree in speech and language pathology.
- A valid Michigan certificate with speech and language impaired (SB) endorsement or a master's degree and the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Minimum three years of successful experience working with children and families in an urban educational setting and/or diverse/multi-cultural setting.
