Title: Plumber - Journeyman Level Active Heating 151 N. Position Summary : We are looking for a Journeyman Plumber to work as part of our dynamic and passionate team, to deliver technical competencies and exceed customer expectations by providing high quality installation and maintenance services at every job site. As a Journeyman Plumber, you will be required to perform all Plumber Journeyman JOB DUTIES, which include supervision of our Plumber Apprentice Level employees and our Plumber Helper Level employees. You may also be required to perform Plumber Apprentice JOB DUTIES, and Plumber Helper JOB DUTIES, on an as needed basis. See all JOB DUTIES below. Automobile travel may be required approximately 3 out of 20 working days per month (15% of the time) to customer sites in the following South Dakota Counties, which are listed in order of the most frequent travel expected: Codington, Clark, Hamlin, Deuel, Roberts, Brookings, Day, Grant, Lake, and Marshall. Work Location : In person, at Active Heating Watertown Office and automobile travel to client sites approximately 75 % of the time in Codington County, with automobile travel required approximately 3 out of 20 working days per month (15% of the time) to customer sites in the following South Dakota Counties, which are listed in order of the most frequent travel expected: Codington, Clark, Hamlin, Deuel, Roberts, Brookings, Day, Grant, Lake, and Marshall. JOB DUTIES Plumber - Journeyman Level (These duties map to U.S. Department of Labor OCCUPATION #47-2152) 1-Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment, according to blueprints. 2-Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications. 3-Review blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures. 4-Direct helpers engaged in pipe cutting, preassembly, or installation of plumbing systems or components. 5-Install automatic controls to regulate pipe systems. 6-Estimate time, material, or labor costs for use in project plans. 7-Keep records of work assignments. 8-Inspect structures to assess material or equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, or to plan installation around obstructions, such as electrical wiring. 9-Inspect work sites for obstructions or holes that could cause structural weakness. 10-Install pipe systems to support alternative energy-fueled systems, such as geothermal heating or cooling systems. 11-Repair hydraulic or air pumps. 12-Weld small pipes or special piping, using specialized techniques, equipment, or materials, such as computer-assisted welding or microchip fabrication. 13-Supervise and approve all work performed by Plumber Apprentices and Plumber Helpers. 14-Also as needed perform all Plumber Apprentice JOB DUTIES. 15-Also as needed perform all Plumber Helper JOB DUTIES. JOB DUTIES Plumber - Apprentice Level
(These duties map to U.S. Department of Labor OCCUPATION #47-2152) 1-Shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches. 2-Install underground storm, sanitary, or water piping systems, extending piping as needed to connect fixtures and plumbing. 3-Assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment. 4-Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels. 5-Cut, thread, or hammer pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders. 6-Select pipe sizes, types, or related materials, such as supports, hangers, or hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications. 7-Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. 8-Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods. 9-Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers or water heaters, or fixtures such as sinks or toilets, using hand or power tools. 10-Anchor steel supports, from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place. 11-Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment. 12-Modify, clean, or maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, or related machines or equipment, using hand or power tools. 13-Maintain or repair plumbing by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged drains. 14-Repair or remove and replace system components. 15-Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes or pipe fittings, using hand or power tools. 16-Install green plumbing equipment, such as faucet flow restrictors, dual-flush or pressure-assisted flush toilets, or tankless hot water heaters. 17-Install fixtures, appliances, or equipment designed to reduce water or energy consumption. 18-Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded manholes, basements, or facility floors. 19-Supervise work performed by Plumber Helpers. 15-Also as needed perform all Plumber Helper JOB DUTIES. JOB DUTIES Plumber - Helper Level
(These duties map to U.S. Department of Labor OCCUPATION #47-3015.00) 1-Measure, cut, thread and assemble new pipe, placing the assembled pipe in hangers or other supports. 2-Cut or drill holes in walls or floors to accommodate the passage of pipes. 3-Perform rough-ins, repair and replace fixtures and water heaters, and locate, repair, or remove leaking or broken pipes. 4-Assist pipe fitters in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping for air, ammonia, gas, and water systems. 5-Cut pipe and lift up to fitters. 6-Fit or assist in fitting valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems, using hand tools. 7-Requisition tools and equipment, select type and size of pipe, and collect and transport materials and equipment to work site. 8-Mount brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipes and set sleeves or inserts to provide support for pipes. 9-Excavate and grade ditches and lay and join pipe for water and sewer service. 10-Disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe. 11-Clean shop, work area, and machines, using solvent and rags. 12-Install gas burners to convert furnaces from wood, coal, or oil. 13-Fill pipes with sand or resin to prevent distortion and hold pipes during bending and installation. 14-Immerse pipe in chemical solution to remove dirt, oil, and scale. 15-Clean and renew steam traps. - 48 months of experience as a Plumber - Apprentice Level employee (as defined in South Dakota law); AND
- SD Plumber Journeyman License
- 60 months of experience as a Plumber - Apprentice Level (as defined in South Dakota law); AND
- A Plumber Apprentice License from any other state or country; AND
- Meet all qualifications required by the State of South Dakota to apply for and take the South Dakota Plumber Journeyman license examination immediately after hiring or with minimal study while performing Plumbing Apprentice duties.
