Specialty Clinical Pharmacist - PRN

Job Summary This position demonstrates consistent application of knowledge and skills to deliver appropriate, safe, efficient and cost‑effective pharmaceutical care within the scope of their assigned practice. It involves the care of patients, development of professional relationships within the multidisciplinary team, and management of high‑cost, high‑complexity specialty therapies. Schedule & Location Schedule: PRN, Monday – Friday, 07:30 – 18:00 with no holidays or weekends. Location: Denver, Colorado. Preferred Qualifications Clinical oncology expertise Epic experience Ambulatory care experience Essential Functions Review patients’ medication orders for allergy interactions, duplication of therapy, appropriateness of drug therapy, and drug‑drug interactions. Make evidence‑based interventions to optimize medication use, considering specialty‑specific guidelines and payer requirements. Ensure safe, appropriate, cost‑effective therapies and accurately dispense medications. Oversee and/or participate in assuring appropriate medications are prepared, delivered timely, stored securely, and maintained at suitable conditions, including cold‑chain management and limited distribution protocols. Provide counseling to patients and promote quality medication education and adherence, including detailed education on specialty therapies, administration training, side‑effect management, and adherence strategies such as refill coordination and follow‑up outreach. Ensure patients are well‑informed, treated with respect, and receive the highest level of professional service. Complete all regulatory and compliance training and ensure documentation of regulatory requirements is clear and complete, including specialty pharmacy requirements such as REMS programs and accreditation standards (URAC, ACHC). Remain knowledgeable and compliant with state and federal laws, regulations, pharmacy policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures. Supervise and direct activities of interns, technicians, and support personnel as required, including those involved in specialty workflows such as prior authorization support, benefits investigation, and patient assistance coordination. Provide medication‑related clinical consultation and clarification to other health professionals. Take initiative to solve problems, including equipment, maintenance, drug availability, staffing issues, insurance denials, access barriers, specialty medication supply limitations, and extraordinary patient care concerns. Identify potential areas for improvement, including processes that could be streamlined or revised to improve patient satisfaction and patient access processes. Identify potential safety hazards that may create problems for patients and/or staff and take appropriate actions, particularly with high‑risk or specialty medications. Participate in departmental meetings, contributing ideas or feedback. Support clinic or hospital and system directives, including clinical, compliance, business operations, standardization, and customer service, with alignment to specialty pharmacy performance metrics (adherence, turnaround time, patient satisfaction). Support local and enterprise pharmacy leadership initiatives, including specialty pharmacy program growth, accreditation readiness, and clinical program development. License to practice pharmacy in the state of practice and dispense controlled substances. Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy in the state of practice. Effective communication, people management, and project management skills. Immunization certification if applicable to practice site needs. Preferred: Previous experience working in an integrated healthcare delivery system. Board Certification Health System Residency. Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors, and identify equipment and supplies, as well as assess customer needs. Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients and visitors that require verbal communication and listening to spoken information quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate supplies and equipment with precision and accuracy. Frequent computer use for typing and accessing needed information.
