Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 26 weeks Shift: Evenings Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Active Illinois RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: - Required certifications - General nursing skills - Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience - At least 1 prior travel assignment Description: The Emergency Department cares for a diverse population, ranging from newborns to the elderly. Patients present with a variety of complaints, including minor issues and critical illnesses. Common cases include strokes, heart attacks, and trauma patients. The department has 65 private beds and 2 trauma bays. Patient-nurse ratios vary from 1:3 to 1:5, based on acuity and department needs. Nurses should be proficient in titrating multiple drips, including vasopressors and cardiac medications. There is a minimum of 3 attending physicians present at all times in the department. Two charge nurses are assigned to each shift to manage the department's needs. A house supervisor is available 24/7 for additional support. ED techs assist in the department, with a typical patient-to-tech ratio of 1:9. Nurses are expected to interpret and respond to cardiac rhythms. Laboratory draws may be performed by both nurses and techs. Shifts consist of 12-hour shifts with rotations that typically include every other weekend and occasional holidays. Travel nurses may be assigned to assist in other units, but this is rare. Scrubs should be tasteful and can be in any solid color.
