Adult Education Teacher

Provide instruction to ensure that students meet learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content.

Implements the WV Schools of Diversion and Transition approved program of study.

Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning.

Utilizes instructional techniques and methods which increase student learning.

Monitors student progress toward mastery of instructional goals and objectives.

Promotes and maintains positive student-teacher and interagency lines of communication.

Meets professional responsibilities.

Complies with host agency's policies and procedures.

Works in a cooperative manner with Division of Corrections & Rehabilitation staff to ensure a safe and secure environment and the integration of treatment and educational goals.

Maintains and upgrades professional skills.

Assists educational staff with special learners, such as ESL and students below grade level.

May require flexibility in work hours to meet the needs of the target population.

Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.

Holds or qualifies for a West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate including those in Career and Technical Education OR holds or qualifies for an Adult License for Adult Education.

Possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully: (a) perform the job requirements; (b) work within a correctional setting, and (c) work as part of an education and rehabilitation team.

Preference will be given to those having certification and experience in the areas of elementary education, math education, reading education, and special education.

Background in special education, remedial reading, math education, or experience working with students in need of remediation or well below grade/age level.

Experience in working with inmates or troubled youth.

Knowledge and skills in computer assisted instruction.

Knowledge and skills in the education of the adult learner.
