Description: The Surgical/Trauma ICU is a fast-paced 15-bed intensive care unit. It provides care for surgical and trauma adult critical care patients. Staff are expected to manage post-operative patients requiring intensive monitoring and interventions. The team also cares for patients with multisystem traumatic injuries. Patient care requires a high level of competence and compassion. Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2, varying based on patient acuity. The unit is supported by interdisciplinary teams including respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services. The environment requires strong skills in patient assessment and management. Special equipment may include rapid infusers and monitoring devices for critical care management. Nurses are responsible for tasks such as arterial line management and blood product administration. Experience in managing ventilated patients and central line care is essential. Nurses must adhere to infection prevention protocols and isolation precautions. Continuous education and adherence to workplace policies are mandatory for all staff.
