Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel MIG Welder to join our production team. This position prepares and welds structural steel joints in accordance with AWS D1.1 standards.

The welder will operate semi-automatic welding equipment to join metal components using the gas metal arc welding process. Additional responsibilities include cleaning, inspecting, and repairing welds using grinders, plasma gouging equipment, and other tools commonly used in the welding trade.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Fabricate components according to job requirements.
• Clean, prepare, cut, fit, and weld metal pieces using appropriate power tools, hand tools, and welding equipment.
• Read and interpret specifications, blueprints, sketches, work orders, and customer requirements.
• Repair or modify metal parts as required.
• Inspect completed welds to verify quality and compliance with specifications.
• Check angles, dimensions, and gap allowances using micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and other measuring tools.
• Complete job orders, router tracking, and other required production documentation accurately and on time.
• Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and applicable regulations.
• Safely operate electric overhead cranes to move workpieces, pipes, and metal components.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least one year of welding and fabrication experience.
• Ability to meet AWS D1.1 structural steel welding certification requirements.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems and equipment maintenance.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to understand verbal and written work instructions, work orders, blueprints, and customer specifications.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, decimals, and fraction conversions.
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring instruments.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Ability to stand for approximately 85% of the workday.
• Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, twist, reach, push, and pull as required.
• Ability to perform frequent horizontal reaching and upper-body movements.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and welding gear.

Work Environment

• This position is performed in a manufacturing and welding environment.
• Indoor plant temperatures may match or exceed outdoor temperatures because production bay doors remain open during much of the year.
• Employees may be exposed to welding smoke, metal-cutting equipment, machinery, noise, heat, and moving materials.
• Welding smoke and metal-cutting filtration systems are used to reduce airborne contaminants but may not eliminate them completely.
• Voluntary respirator use may be permitted following a required medical evaluation.
