About the Position

Job Title: RN Circulator Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Preferred: Previous RN circulator experience, Peri-op 101 course, Scrub experience License: Current RN license in the state, BLS, ACLS, & PALS Certification, TNCC Certifications: ACLS - required, BLS - required, PALS - required Must-Have: Associate of Science in Nursing Description: The Registered Nurse specializing in perioperative nursing practice during intraoperative surgical experience. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the operating room and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. Acts as the patient advocate and is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned. Will be on call for the Surgery Unit on a regularly scheduled rotation. Essential Job Functions: Accept responsibility for the direction, control, and planning of an activity. Make evaluations and decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria. Work independently. Implement the plan of care by protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources. Perform accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items. Perform interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level. Manage the patient’s specimens according to organizational policies and procedures. Communicate the patient’s status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care. Administer medications safely and correctly. Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels. Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels. Perform interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection. Protect the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy. Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice. Provide consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting. Document nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly. Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as applicable. Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members. Maintain required competencies. Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization. Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. Support the mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures of the organization. Participate in required education for applicable programs as required. Perform other related duties as assigned.
