Job Summary Under direct supervision, cares, handles and stores instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for surgery and processed goods for redistribution throughout the Medical Center. Assists Sterile Processing Specialists with various team lead duties, such as maintaining competencies. This position is eligible for a $2,500 sign‑on bonus! Education and Experience Completion of Central Sterile Processing Program High School diploma or GED Experience as a CS Technician or in instrumentation Skills Advanced analytical ability to identify and perform minor repairs on instrumentation Ability to work in a fast‑paced and stressful environment, responding rapidly and efficiently to requests from the surgical team, changes in the OR schedule, and nursing unit requests Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Certifications Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) Physical Requirements Walk and stand for up to 80% of work time Frequent hand washing Concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of work time Push, pull, or lift heavy instruments up to 40 pounds up to 80% of work time Lift heavy instruments up to 30 pounds up to 80% of work time (see duplicate statement) Working Conditions Work in clean and dirty areas with moderate heat exposure Exposed to noise from sterilizers and other equipment up to 50% of work time Exposed to water and detergents up to 50% of work time Potential health and physical hazards from contaminated instruments and sharp objects up to 50% of work time Principal Duties and Responsibilities Decontaminate, disassemble, inspect, and lubricate instrumentation, scopes, and equipment according to hospital policy Assemble and sterilize instrument sets, endoscopes, treatment trays, and miscellaneous goods according to department standards Select and prepare packaging material appropriately; label, initial, and date all prepared packages Operate, check, clean, and troubleshoot equipment; perform chemical, mechanical, and biological monitoring Accurately document all required information on sterilization records Pick supplies, instruments, and equipment according to surgeon’s preference cards for posted, add‑on, and emergency cases Restock specialty carts for nursing units according to pick sheets; deliver supplies and case carts to the OR in a timely fashion Dispatch telephone calls for the OR for urgent supply needs and request assistance when necessary Assist specialists with maintaining and updating par levels of all instrument sets, trays, and processed goods; troubleshoot problems Maintain inventory of count sheets for instrument sets and may stand in as lead in the absence of a Specialist II Maintain productivity, set utilization, and location using the SPM System; properly store all instrumentation and supplies and rotate stock according to policy and procedure Maintain all specialty instrumentation equipment, loaner sets, and scopes; assist in maintaining cleanliness of the unit in accordance with Infection Control standards Identify process improvement opportunities and work to address process and workflow issues that impede availability of needed instrumentation and supplies Maintain own record for completion of continuing education credits (CEU’s) based on national expectations; report accruals to the Department Manager Schedule staff to complete mandatory net learning and unit‑based competencies; maintain these records on the unit Pay Range $17.64 - $27.48 per hour (final salary offer based on qualifications, education, experience, and alignment with organizational needs) Benefits Competitive salary and generous paid time off Free parking Monthly MTA bus pass subsidy (85% paid by GBMC, if applicable) Company‑subsidized onsite fitness and wellness center (if applicable) Pre‑paid tuition to pursue professional development, additional certifications, and degree programs Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage 401(a) and 403(b) retirement savings plan Equal Employment Opportunity GBMC HealthCare and its affiliates are Equal Opportunity employers.
