We're currently seeking a dedicated Full-Time Prep Cook to become part of our caring and mission-driven community. This position will follow a 10:30am-6:30pm shift with varying weekdays with a weekend rotation.The Cook I is responsible for preparing and cooking meals in accordance with standardized recipes and dietary requirements while ensuring food safety, cleanliness, and quality standards are consistently met. Here, your work is more than a job, it's a meaningful part of something bigger.Come see the difference!What You'll Do as a CLV Cook I:Prepare and cook food items by following basic recipes and production guidelines, including seasoning, tasting, carving, and serving menu items.Operate kitchen equipment and utensils to measure, mix, cut, peel, shred, and trim ingredients, including fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, and fish.Estimate food quantities, review menus, maintain production records, and requisition necessary supplies to meet daily food service needs.Accommodate special dietary requirements and prepare meals to order, following verbal or written instructions as needed.Receive and manage inventory, lifting and moving food supplies as required.Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment in compliance with regulatory and food safety standards.Maintain all required documentation, including temperature logs, production records, and cleaning checklists.Attend and participate in training, including ServSafe Food Handler certification (to be completed within 90 days of hire), and ongoing education opportunities.Collaborate effectively with interdepartmental staff to ensure consistent, high-quality food service.Contribute to a positive, warm, and respectful environment for residents and team members.Serve on internal or external committees as assigned and follow all dietary procedures per facility policy.Perform additional duties as assigned.All the great incentives you get as a CLV Team Member!A strong total compensation package including:Competitive wagesHealth, dental and vision insurancePaid short- and long-term disability and life insuranceGenerous contributions to a 403(b)-retirement planPaid Time OffPaid professional developmentScholarship opportunitiesAn even stronger culture of caring, collaboration and support!#INDSPNQualificationsWhat You'll Need as a Cook I:Education | ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent.2 years of work-related experience preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.Physically able to move throughout the workday and lift items up to 50 pounds using safe handling practices.May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions.Equal Opportunity Employer Statement At Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland (LSMMD), we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where every individual is respected, supported, and valued.
