Position Overview

St. Michaels Market is looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Fresh Foods Prep Associate to join our team.

This is a behind-the-scenes food preparation and production position with no customer service responsibilities. You will not be responsible for taking customer orders, working a register, or staffing a service counter. This allows you to focus on preparing fresh, high-quality food for our customers.

The position will primarily focus on cutting and packaging fresh fruit, preparing salads, and making soups, with the opportunity to assist with additional fresh and prepared food items as our program continues to grow.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with food, takes pride in quality and presentation, and works well independently in a food production environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Wash, cut, portion, and package fresh fruit
• Prepare fruit cups, fruit bowls, and other fresh-cut fruit items
• Prepare store-made salads according to recipes and standards
• Wash, cut, and prepare vegetables and other ingredients
• Prepare soups according to established recipes
• Portion and package soups, salads, and other prepared foods
• Label and date products properly
• Maintain attractive and consistent presentation of all prepared items
• Monitor freshness and quality of ingredients and finished products
• Rotate products and ingredients to maintain freshness and reduce waste
• Follow recipes, portioning guidelines, and production standards
• Maintain proper food temperatures
• Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures
• Keep prep areas, equipment, utensils, and work surfaces clean and organized
• Communicate ingredient and inventory needs to department management
• Assist with additional fresh and prepared food production as needed

Quality & Freshness

Freshness and presentation are extremely important to this position. The Fresh Foods Prep Associate will be expected to consistently produce items that are fresh, properly portioned, and visually appealing.

This includes paying close attention to product freshness, consistent cutting and portion sizes, attractive packaging and presentation, proper dating and rotation, minimizing unnecessary food waste, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.

Growth of the Position

St. Michaels Market is continuing to expand our fresh and prepared foods selection.

While the position will initially focus heavily on fresh-cut fruit, salads, and soups, there will be opportunities to become involved with additional items such as:

• Grab-and-go meals
• Specialty and seasonal salads
• Vegetable trays
• Fruit trays and platters
• Side dishes
• Dips and spreads
• Seasonal prepared foods
• Catering and special orders
• New store-made fresh food offerings

We want someone who can become an important part of our fresh foods program and help us continue improving the quality, consistency, variety, and presentation of what we offer.

What We're Looking For

• Previous food preparation, deli, kitchen, grocery, or restaurant experience is preferred but not required
